History
Rammer was founded in 1978 in Lahti, Finland, by engineers with backgrounds in mining and rock drilling. The company's founding philosophy was to build hydraulic breakers specifically for the most demanding rock-breaking applications — quarrying, mining, and heavy demolition — rather than general construction.
This focus on demanding applications led Rammer to develop particularly robust designs with heavy-duty components and conservative operating parameters. Rammer breakers became known in the quarry industry for exceptional durability and long service life.
In 2004, Rammer was acquired by Sandvik, the Swedish engineering group with extensive mining and rock processing operations. Under Sandvik ownership, Rammer has maintained its Finnish manufacturing base and brand identity while gaining access to Sandvik's global distribution network and R&D resources.
Today, Rammer manufactures hydraulic breakers at its facility in Lahti, Finland, and distributes globally through Sandvik's dealer network.
Key Technologies
RD (Rammer Direct) Drive System
Rammer's RD (Rammer Direct) drive system uses a direct-acting hydraulic circuit without a separate control valve. This simplifies the hydraulic circuit, reduces the number of components that can fail, and provides a more direct power transfer from the hydraulic oil to the piston. The result is high impact energy efficiency and a robust, low-maintenance design.
VIDAT (Vibration Dampening Technology)
Rammer's VIDAT system uses specially designed vibration isolation elements in the mounting bracket to reduce vibration transmission to the excavator. The system is designed specifically for the high-energy impacts of quarry and mining applications, where vibration loads are significantly higher than in construction work.
Intelligent Hydraulic System (IHB)
Rammer's Intelligent Hydraulic Breaker (IHB) technology, available on larger models, uses electronic monitoring to track operating parameters and alert the operator to maintenance requirements or abnormal conditions. The system can detect low nitrogen pressure, overheating, and abnormal operating patterns before they cause damage.
